Invisible braces aligns your teeth correctly

There was a time when wearing braces was one thing that most people avoided. Braces are external devices that are used by a dentist to reshape, misaligned and misshaped teeth. Braces were made of wires and metals, and due to this, braces used to look awkward on the wearer. In fact, they look especially bad when a person smiles. Though all of us realize that braces are meant to align misshaped teeth, but this can severely hamper your social and personal life. However with the invention of invisible braces, this problem has been dealt with to a large extent.

Invisible braces has come as a boon to all those who are suffering from the problem of misalign and crooked teeth. The problem of misaligned, misshaped and crooked teeth is very common. Using braces at a young age is very important if one wants to have the perfect teeth. Not having the perfect teeth can cause huge embarrassment especially when one goes out to social gatherings. In fact, this can sometimes also lead to depression, so treating this condition as early as possible will be of great help.

Invisible braces are not very different from metal braces. It is just that the braces are made of invisible ceramics, so that they are not visible when a person wears them. The brackets of invisible braces are made of invisible plastic or ceramics and are attached to the front portion of the teeth of a patient.

The best aspects of invisible braces are that they are easy to wear and remove. Crooked, misaligned and misshaped teeth are not very difficult condition that it cannot be cured. One just needs to see the dentist and on his advice use invisible braces to correct the condition.

There are certain disadvantages of wearing metal braces and this is another reason why invisible braces are hugely popular among the public and dentists as well. Metal braces trend to cause certain amount of soreness in their gums. With invisible braces, soaring does not take place at all. Invisible braces are not at all bulky and wearer will not feel heavy while wearing it unlike metal braces.

Remember that you must consult a dentist before you put invisible braces. Everyone cannot be a suitable candidate for putting on invisible braces. The dentist is the best person to determine if you should wear braces or not. He will examine you thoroughly and find out if you are suitable or not.

Braces NYC is meant to give perfection to your teeth

A perfect smile has always been liked and preferred by everyone. No one likes to receive sarcastic remarks about their smile. Imagine how you would feel if you are told that your smile is awkward? It is obvious that you will feel embarrassed. Everyone is not born with healthy and perfect teeth. Though, it takes some time and patience to get that winning smile; but it is worth waiting. Many times, it happens that you might develop the problem of misaligned teeth. It looks so bad that you upper or lower teeth are not in alignment with the other one. In this case, Braces are the best source of treatment process to cure this problem.

It is the matter of a specialist, either in NYC or any other state, to apply this treatment properly and get your misaligned teeth back in shape. Since the advent of braces in the field of dentistry, a variety of braces have been used by orthodontists to correct dental defects. At the very outset, it was metal braces that were being used for correcting the alignment of patient's teeth. These metal braces used to contain metal brackets that were being glued to the front side of the teeth. It was this form of braces that looked so gauche and used to give a feel that the mouth is full of metal.

These types of brackets support a tightening wire in place. The wire is threaded through the brackets and is in the shape that the orthodontist wishes to achieve for the benefit of patient's smile. Wire shifts into shape and moves the teeth along with it. These wires are tightened once a month for a period of up to two and a half years, depending on the severity of the patient's condition. The fear of having an embarrassing look with the metal braces compelled cosmetic dentists to develop clear and Invisalign braces. Invisalign is a special treatment invented by Align technology, so that patients do not have to experience the heaviness of those metal braces.

Invisalign braces are light and not visible, but they have to be removed everytime you eat. It really becomes tedious to remove braces and then to be worn again. Moreover, it is mandatory for you to brush your teeth and those braces after eating something. Along with Invisalign braces, clear braces have also come up to add some ease to other otherwise heavy burden on teeth. Such types of braces are made up of plastic or ceramics. The brackets are glued on the front of every tooth and this makes them less visible, almost clear. After all, it's the matter of your dental health and you would not like to have any issues regarding this.

Earlier, the mention of word braces used to bring fear in the mind of patients and they used to shrink away from visiting the dentists. After the advent of clear braces and Invisalign braces in the market, correcting the alignment of your teeth has become all the easier. With these form of braces, your smile is not hampered as they are not visible. Dental defects have been creating problems in the social as well as the personal circle. It is because of this reason that effective developments have been made in the field of dentistry.

Dental Plans vs Dental Insurance - Finally.... A Detailed Explanation

Choosing a Dental Plan these days can be just like pulling teeth. Pardon the humor, but for anyone who has tried to figure out the difference between dental plans, dental insurance, dental discount plans, dental health plans, ect., it can be an extremely frustrating and confusing experience.

First off, there are only two different things that we need to look at. Those are dental insurance and dental plans. Somehow there's become a lot of different terminology for these two, but they're the only ones that you need to worry about.

When most people think of dental care they think of insurance, which, twenty years ago was pretty much the only thing available to consumers. Many people could get coverage through their work either automatically, as an employee group benefit, or for a small fee. Things have changed a lot in the past two decades. Recent studies show that seven out of ten people in the United States have no type of dental coverage at all.

Dental insurance, unless provided by your employer, isn't as "cost effective" these days. Some of the drawbacks are annual deductibles, annual spending limits, non-coverage for pre-existing conditions or a very long (usually 6-12 month) waiting period, and limitations and exclusions on certain types of care. You must also pay a monthly or annual premium which can be in the $25-$50.00 per month range for an individual person and even as much as $100.00 monthly for entire family coverage. At these rates it's no wonder that there are such a high number of people who aren't covered. They simply cannot afford it.

Dental discount plans were introduced several years ago as an insurance "alternative".

Let's define a discount plan - it's really very simple. A dental discount plan allows you to visit a dentist at a reduced rate. You join the plan, which is usually very inexpensive and you may then visit any dentist in that plans "network". This network is a group of dentist's that have agreed to accept a reduced payment for services performed. They do this under the condition that the work be paid for at the time of the visit.

You see, it costs dentist's money and time to fill out forms for insurance payments or to finance someone's dental work. Besides the paperwork, it usually takes anywhere from 45-90 days for them to be paid by the insurance company after they've completed the work. In some cases, claims can even be rejected after they've already performed the work. The insurance company can claim that the person treated was no longer covered for whatever reason or that the procedure performed was excluded from being covered, in which case, the dentist is left "holding the bag".

With dental discount plans you'll pay a discounted fee for services rendered at the time of your visit. For example, let's say that you need your teeth cleaned. The normal price for this may be $80.00, but you'll get a discount card stating that you get a 50% (example) discount, so, in this case, you'd only pay $40.00.

Let's do another example - let's say that you need a root canal done and the price for a root canal is $800.00. Well, you've got a discount card that saves you 50% so you you'd only have to pay $400.00 out of pocket at the time of your visit to the dentist. Are you beginning to understand how this works?

This can be very cost effective for a family.

Is this beginning to make sense now? It's really very simple isn't it?

The 50% savings used was only an example. Many plans offer even higher discounts on certain procedures. Some even include discounts on procedures such as cosmetic dentistry, professional teeth whitening, orthodontics and more.

Also, pre-existing conditions are covered, there are no exclusions, no deductibles and no waiting periods to be treated. You can also see any dentist in the network. If for some reason you're not happy with the first dentist that you see, you can simply start seeing a different one.

That pretty much sums it up. I hope that this was helpful so that you may make an informed decision when you decide to buy dental coverage.

Dentistry NYC is a One Stop Source for all Dental Defects

Dentistry is the different methods and processes that can be used for correcting any kind of dental defect. Dental defect is a condition that can affect any one at anytime. No one is born with bad or unhealthy teeth, but it is due to the unhealthy lifestyle and other habits which a person cultivates and becomes the reason for dental defects. Dentistry NYC has evolved a lot since the early days due to the advancements made in the field of science and technology. If you happen to be residing in NYC, then you are really lucky as you will have many options to choose from if you are suffering from any kind of dental defects.

There are many qualified professionals who operate in NYC. So, the important task at your hand is to find out a good dentist who will do the work for you. Dental defect can be of any kind. It can be something as simple as getting rid of stained yellow teeth or something which is more complex like replacing a missing teeth or set of tooth. Any dental ailment can be corrected by a dentist who has professional qualifications. All depends on your ability to select a good dentist to do any dentistry procedure on an individual.

Stained yellow teeth are one of the most common dental defects that affect the general public. There are several reasons which can stain your teeth. Excessive intake of beverages like tea, coffee, coke and red wine can stain your teeth. The trick lies in balancing the intake of these substances, other then restricting the smoking and taking any other tobacco product. Smile is a very important social asset, and everybody makes an effort to keep their teeth bright and shining at all time.

Teeth loss is one dentistry condition which can happen to anyone. Tooth loss can occur due to accident and accidents can happen to anyone at any time. For anyone suffering from tooth loss due to any reason, dental implant is the best way out of this situation. Anyone who has healthy teeth is eligible for undergoing the procedure of dental implants. In dental implant, a metal screw is placed at the jawbone, which will facilitate the growth of new teeth in place of the missing teeth or tooth. The success rate of dental implant is about 95%, so anyone can undergo this procedure without any fear.

The success or the failure of any dental procedure depends on the capability and the experience of the dentist. It is very important for anyone who wants to undergo the procedure to be able to fully trust his dentist. You will be handing over to the dentist to fix your smile or any other dental defect so just make sure that you hire the services of an efficient professional dentist. Ask your dentist about all you want to know, so that you will not be suddenly caught unawares in any situation.

Whats Wrong With Whites?

It is time for dinner, and you have to decide what to prepare. You have already made your decision of a garden salad and grilled chicken breast, but what should you eat with them? You proceed to open the pantry to find your selection. You see the box of macaroni and cheese. Next to it, the brown rice. Which should you choose? The brown rice and I will tell you why.
Brown rice is the lower glycemic food of the two. Sounds complex, you say. Let me start with the basics, the glycemic index. It refers to the degree in which blood sugar increases after consumption of a particular food. Thus, the higher the value, the quicker your blood sugar and insulin levels will rise.
We tend to reach for the high glycemic foods such as white pasta and potato chips when we are in need of comfort foods. Foods with a higher glycemic index are normally high in sugar and are usually processed. Not to mention, they are lacking in nutritional value, containing little vitamins, minerals, and some with no fiber content. When the need for a comfort food arises, try reaching for something a little better such as low fat/fat free, sugar free single serving of ice cream or frozen yogurt.
These high glycemic foods leave us with the feeling of fullness and satisfaction but only for a short while. Then we are hungry again, and then quickly reach for something to fill that void, and normally, reaching for another high glycemic food. You've heard the saying, one good thing leads to another right? Well, one bad thing leads to another too. Limiting foods such as these will lead to fewer cravings of unhealthy, non-nutritional foods.
There are many ways to incorporate lower glycemic options to substitute for the higher glycemic ones. One of the simpler ways is to exchange your white pasta for wheat pasta. The fiber content is increased and will leave you feeling satisfied for a longer period of time. Instead of that orange or orange juice, reach for an apple. Again, you will be increasing the fiber content. Include fresh or steamed vegetables as side items for a meal instead of potatoes or other processed foods. These are just a few ways to incorporate low glycemic items into your daily meal plan, however there are many, many more. Eating a diet consisting of foods that are low glycemic will help maintain blood sugar levels and help avoid frequent fluctuations. This in return will make weight loss or maintenance easier and more consistent.
Anything that makes weight control easier is certainly worth a try. Its simple steps like these that really add up. What do you have to lose besides the extra weight? Visit www.halfhourfitness.com for more information.

Electric Tooth Brushes the necessary Accessories

Electric Tooth Brushes are great for your dental health. Like any other electronic item it also requires some basic accessories to work with.

Electric toothbrush timers.- are the features included in the Electric Tooth Brush to give their users an idea of how long to brush. Usually people don't brush effectively is because they do not brush long enough. And this will take care of this problem. The Tooth Brush timers can measure Brushing duration, indicating the total available time remaining out of the brushing time. The other types are more specific in pointing out the brushing time for each of the quadrants of your Mouth.

The Electric toothbrush power settings provide for an option that sets the power of the brushing action of the brush to either a "high" or "low" level or the user can set the same as per his requirements. The latest Electric Tooth Brushes have options for brush heads and they allow different types and shapes of Brush heads to be used as per the user's preferences.

The brush Head is another accessory and usually you get the required brush head along with the Brush and in case the head supplied with the Brush is not suitable then you can buy it as an accessory. When the Tooth brush is to be used by all your family members then you must have a Brush head storage provision as well as means for color coding them.

The brush heads have to be replaced at least 3 to 6 months once if not worn out earlier, and the additional brush heads can be bought as accessories. Electric Toothbrush pressure sensors have been incorporated into the design of Brushes as a safety feature. If the brush user applies too much force the brush will automatically stall or stop. If you find that brushing with excessive force has been a problem for you in the past this may be a feature that is important for your situation.

The charging apparatus for the Electric Toothbrush is a must and it comes along with the Tooth brush with some models and for others we have to buy as separate item. Some of the items come with indicator gauges into the design of their toothbrushes so to help you evaluate the degree to which the battery's charge has been depleted, so you'll know when to recharge it.

Comparing At Home Teeth Whitening Products And Professional Teeth Whitening From The Dental Professional

There is some confusion regarding the use of home teeth whitening kits or solutions and the quality of work done by your dentist or dental office. When it comes to teeth whitening, there are several important differences that anyone should consider.

The first consideration is the convenience getting to the end result. There's no question that a dentist is interested in your overall dental care. Therefore they are more likely to focus on healthy, usable teeth and less on esthetics. If you think about it, this is actually a good thing.

Understand that the quality of the teeth whitening however is very comparable. The dentist typically will use much stronger whitener gels to achieve faster results. They may also use a laser or blue light which when used with "special" gel is claimed to work even faster. Speed however is not the reason why you're considering getting your teeth whitened, it's for a brighter smile.

The dentist will achieve results faster but they also need a formal appointment which makes the dental method less convenient.

The next important point of interest is the ability to whiten or what the final result will look like. Here, both the home teeth whitening solutions and the dentist both do an excellent job. The difference is that although the dentist may get faster results, there is a risk of your teeth becoming sensitive to temperature extremes due to the aggressive nature of the dental whitening materials used.

Another point is the need for occasional maintenance treatments. The benefit here definitely goes to the home whiteners because you can treat your teeth anytime you feel they are starting to get a little stained or dull. The dentist method will require another appointment and treatment at their office.

Finally there's the overall cost. A high quality home teeth whitening product can be obtained for under 150 dollars. This is typically more than enough to whitening and brighten your smile in less than a couple of weeks. The dental method typically can cost several hundred up to as much as 800 dollars for the initial treatment without considering the expense of the maintenance treatments that will be needed.

Bottom line is that if you have strong and healthy teeth, using a home whitening solution can save you money and deliver the same bright smile and unstained teeth as the dentist. In the end, home whitening is both an economical, safe and convenient way to whiten all your teeth and bring back that youthful smile.

Are Professional Laser Teeth Whitening Techniques Better?

The latest advancement in laser whitening gel is used with an in-office laser that results in a very fast and effective bleaching system. The gel is applied to the teeth after appropriate gum and mouth soft tissue protection is placed. Then, a laser light is used to activate the chemical in the gel that has been especially designed to absorb energy from the light and quickly penetrate tooth surfaces. This technique results in a very fast laser whitening effect.

The ZOOM teeth whitening system is an example of this type of system. The length of time needed for full color restoration of course depends on the amount and type of tooth enamel discoloration apparent. Although very fast, many dentists are wary of this process due to the potential of gum and soft tissue discoloration.

The cost of this very fast laser whitening can vary based on your location with many of the larger cities being more expensive than other areas. Laser teeth whitening process in a professional dental office can be expected to cost between 250 and 500 dollars on average for the full treatment.
Generally speaking, the price of teeth whitening increases with the number of in-office treatments required. So the more discolored the teeth, the more visits are required and the potential of a higher total cost. Dental insurance typically does not cover laser whitening as it's considered cosmetic.

Remember though that once the dentist has you in the office, they will want to do a complete exam to check for general dental health. Few if any dentists will do a whitening treatment on teeth that need corrective dental work done. That is, a good cleaning, cavities filled, etc.

Dentists, like all professionals, will push to get all the business they can from you. It's in your best interest though to carefully consider the importance of good dental health. So if it comes to a choice between teeth whitening and good dental health, your best interests are served by having a solid set of teeth even if they may not be as white as desired. This means that if you want whiter teeth from a dentist office, plan on a full commitment to total tooth care and mouth health.

Laser teeth whitening treatments though are not more effective on whitening teeth than many quality custom tray home products. Though much faster results are available, you run the risk of gum and tissue damage due to the aggressiveness of the products used in laser whitening. Teeth sensitivity can also be an issue.

So the results are in. Much faster and expensive laser teeth whitening or a slower though probably safer home teeth whitening solution, the choice is yours.

Daily care of the Teeth is a Simple but Vital Activity

The choices in the variety of toothbrushes are so diverse, they can take up almost the length of a whole aisle at the grocery store. According to Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Kourosh Maddahi, "The important thing is that you choose a soft brush and that it has round-ended bristles. This will be sturdy enough to clean the teeth and stimulate the gums, but not scrub them."

"An electric toothbrush may help those who have difficulty brushing their teeth, " Dr. Maddahi continues, "but it has not proven to clean better than a regular toothbrush. And, remember, to replace your toothbrush every two to three months, as well as after colds, to keep it in top shape and hygienic."

Toothpaste is formulated to clean and polish teeth and contains abrasives such as silica, alumina, calcium and baking soda. Too abrasive of a paste can damage teeth allowing a place for bacteria to accumulate. If a toothpaste is called anti-plaque that means that their paste has been proven to prevent gingivitis. Tartar-control toothpastes help to prevent further buildup, but won't defeat existing tartar. Tooth whitening agents may extend the brightness your teeth have after a professional cleaning.

Flossing is important and often neglected. There are many types of floss to choose from: waxed, unwaxed, flavored, ribbon, flat, etc. The new flossing implements are very handy and make flossing so much easier. The type that is used is not considered important, but flossing must be done daily.

What you eat and how long it remains in your mouth is a vital factor to dental health. Teeth are most affected by sugars, any sugar: including brown sugar and the natural sugars found in fruit and dairy products, is a tooth's worst enemy. Foods such as raisins and other dried fruits tend to stick to the teeth, enhancing the conditions for destructive acids. Starchy foods should be eaten with other foods and hard candies, breath mints and cough drops also stay in the mouth longer than other foods. Obviously, the more often you snack, the greater your threat for hosting enamel-destroying acids.

Some recent studies have found that some foods may help counter tooth decay. Research has shown that peanuts and aged cheddar, Swiss and Monterey Jack cheeses may actually inhibit or neutralize the acids that cause cavities. If you can't brush after a meal, try chewing sugarless gum, to clean off the teeth.

Regular dental checkups are required to maintain good health because decay can eat away from the tooth's surface to the nerve in the heart of the tooth in just a year. Twice a year you should have your teeth cleaned and checked by your dentist.

Eating good foods, brushing and flossing daily and regular visits to the dentist will help to avoid decay that leads to cavities and root canals.

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has been specializing in creating beautiful, natural smiles and superior dental health for 20 years and is located in Beverly Hills at 436 N. Roxbury Drive, Suite 202 and can be reached at 310-888-7797.

Saving a Sick Tooth: The Root Canal Treatment for a Dental Infection

The emphasis on proactive healthcare has resulted in new attention to oral hygiene's role in maintaining physical wellbeing. Dozens of new products are being marketed and the beauty of the human smile is now in the spotlight right next to firm skin, body nutrition and lustrous hair.

Many of us regularly use products such as; antiseptic mouthwashes, toothpastes that whiten, remove plaque, prevent gingivitis, tongue scrapers and flavored dental floss to manage oral hygiene challenges such as sensitive teeth, halitosis or discolored enamel.

These products are great, but no matter how advanced your toothbrush may be, having your teeth professionally cleaned by a dentist; in a way that is not possible for you to do at home, can really make you feel like smiling.

But it is very difficult to smile when you are suffering with an infected tooth aching night and day. Some people won't think twice about having a procedure that was vital to their health - until it comes to their teeth; many of us do not realize that an infected tooth can damage our health and lead to other more serious problems.

You can thoroughly brush and floss your teeth, but sometimes food particles are missed, even after using a mouthwash. These food particles can find their way into the dental pulp chamber; the soft core cells, blood vessels and nerve endings of the tooth that is enclosed by hard enamel, providing an environment for a bacterial infection to develop.

When the dental pulp chamber of your tooth becomes infected, the irritant that has caused the problem must be removed for your tooth to be cured; this endodontic treatment is called a Pulpectomy.

During this treatment your tooth is opened and the infected pulp chamber which extends to the root of the tooth is cleansed and medicine is applied to prevent the infection from reoccurring. If the infection has caused discoloration of your tooth, an internal tooth bleaching treatment is also applied. Once the treatment is completed, the tooth is closed and sealed.

The simple, highly effective Pulpectomy treatment for dental pulp chamber infections or as it is commonly called the "root canal" in use today is relatively new, and because of this when people are told they need this treatment they become anxious. This treatment did not exist in the 18th century; the available treatments were either: extraction, cauterizing the pulp, treating the infected tooth with leeches or transplanting a tooth from another person's mouth.

By the 19th century, infected teeth were being treated using orangewood, gold or pastes to fill root canal space. Unfortunately many of the chemicals used in these pastes caused problems.

Starting in the 20th century, a person with an infected tooth has an x-ray to determine canal length and the appropriate sealer cement for the root canal is applied; 95 percent of root canals are successful and the research continues." (Source: ADA Dental Minute: Dr. Maria Lopez Howell, Ref. DM2002-13 "HISTORY OF ROOT CANAL" http://www.ada.org/public/media/videos/minute/history_rootcanal.pdf)

To keep your beautiful smile, it is important for your teeth to be cleaned properly by you and your dentist. Cavities may be too small for you to see, but large enough for a food particle to enter inside your tooth. These can be treated by your dentist and a potential problem can be averted.

Unlike the people of the 18th century whose options were limited to extraction or painful unreliable treatments, in the event one of your teeth becomes infected, you can be thankful to the Pulpectomy or root canal research that has made it possible to cure dental infections and save your teeth.

Unchecked Dental Disease Found to Actually Shorten Life in Some Cases

Dental disease and its effect on overall health has recently been in the news and health professionals are cautioned to advise their patients to schedule a dental checkup at least twice a year in order to avoid health risks that can be caused by disregarded dental health.

The subject of health and longevity can no longer exclude the issue of dental disease. Not just a minor ailment of the gums and teeth, it has been conclusively proven that much disease can begin in the mouth. Additionally, it has been found that unhandled dental infection can actually contribute to, or exacerbate other more harmful diseases that can seriously affect the quality of life and sometimes even shorten life expectancy.

Dr. Maddahi, Beverly Hills dentist, addresses all medical care professionals, "It has been proven that the relationship between dental care and overall health is symbiotic. All health practitioners must make every effort to understand this connection and take a role in providing patients with the information they require to address the issue of dental disease."

According to a published article by Dr. Tom McGuire, President of the Dental Wellness Institute, recent scientific studies clearly demonstrate the harmful role gum disease plays in serious and life-threatening diseases. "For twenty years I have been practicing dentistry and I am very relieved to see that other dental professionals have discovered and are publishing these facts that I have noticed over these years.", says Dr. Maddahi. Braces NYC solve your dental problems and give you more reasons to smile

A visit to your dentist could be as pleasurable as walking barefoot on hot sand. However this kind of situation arises usually because we have waited for too long before making that much needed visit. An early intervention in cases of dental problems could actually convert these dreaded visits into a pleasant activity that is essential in maintaining oral health. Problems of teeth alignment are one such common reason that requires the intervention of a competent dentist. And the use of braces is the most effective and usual solution for this common problem. People across all age groups and mainly youngsters in NYC and other places can be seen with braces, confident in the knowledge that soon they will be flashing brilliant smiles with perfectly aligned teeth.

The braces NYC can offer a great relief not only from alignment problems but also from a life of constantly being ridiculed by friends and even family. Although many teenagers and adults are embarrassed about wearing the regular metal braces as it seems to highlight their defect, they need to remember that nobody is born perfect. A dental problem like the alignment of teeth can be easily taken care of by regular use of braces. Now braces NYC also offer the option of invisible braces known as invisalign' that are usually made of plastic or ceramic, making them very difficult to spot and therefore invisible'. However such braces, in contrast to regular ones need to be taken off at certain time, like during meals, and so require a longer period of treatment.

Using braces can be painful initially and the user needs to adjust with the funny sensation of an alien entity inside their mouth. A competent dentist can help the user be as comfortable as possible during the initial days of using braces. Certain activities like playing musical instruments using the mouth could be difficult and even sound funny. The wearer of braces in NYC however needs to constantly remind himself/herself about the long term benefits. A quick search on the internet can show the names of various celebrities, who are perhaps known for their looks, as having worn braces when they were young. A school going teenager who is embarrassed about wearing braces can then gain confidence, secure in the knowledge that if her favorite celebrity can overcome the experience of wearing braces, then so can she.

The ongoing research and innovation in the field of oral healthcare is constantly discovering improved and convenient way to provide the best oral care possible. The existence of a wide variety of braces in NYC and other places, that consist of colored bands, etc, and even the invisalign braces are a major proof of this advancement. A visit to the dentist need not be as scary as before. Now there is no need to suffer from dental problems such cavities, broken tooth, gum problems and bad breath. A basic oral care and hygiene routine and regular checkups by a competent dentist can go a long way in preserving that million dollar smile.

Tea: What is White Tea?

Like all teas, white tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. The leaves are picked and harvested before the leaves open fully, when the buds are still covered by fine white hair. This gives the tea its name.. White tea is scarcer than the other traditional teas, but many tea drinkers prefer white tea over all others.

The leaves are steamed or fried to inactivate oxidation, and then dried. White tea therefore retains the high concentrations of catechins which are present in fresh tea leaves. The buds may also be shielded from sunlight during growth to reduce formation of chlorophyll. White tea is a specialty of the Chinese province Fujian in Southern China.

White tea is similar to green tea, in that it has undergone very little processing and no oxidation. But there is a very noticeable difference in taste. The flavor is described as light, sweet and sometimes smoky.

The best way to infuse white tea is to use a high quality tea pot or infuser and then steep white tea in purified water that is below the boiling point. Use of high quality purified, oxygenated water will add to the flavor of the tea.

White tea is excellent for your health. White tea is full of anti-oxidants that help ensure a healthy lifestyle. There is also much less caffeine in white tea than in other teas. (15mg per serving, compared to 40mg for black tea, and 20mg for green). Studies have also shown that white tea contains more active cancer-fighting antioxidants than even green tea.

A 2004 study at Pace University determined that white tea can help the body's immune system fight off viruses and dangerous infection-causing bacteria. The same study concluded that fluoride-rich white tea helps prevent the growth of dental plaque, the chief cause of tooth decay.

There are many varieties of white tea, with beautiful and descriptive names such as: white Persian melon, white ginger, golden moon, silver needle and white cloud. White teas are produced mainly in China and Japan, but the Darjeeling region of India (noted for its high quality Black Teas) also produces fine white teas.

White tea has a long history in China. In hard or troubled times, very poor Chinese people would serve guests boiled water if they could not afford tea. Host and guest would refer to the water as "white tea" and act as if the tradition of serving guests tea had been carried out as usual. (This usage is related to plain boiled water being called "white boiled water" in Chinese.)

This was especially true in China during World War II and the Japanese Occupation as well as during the later Great Leap Forward (during which over 20 Million Chinese starved because of relocation) and the Cultural Revolution. But as soon as better times returned the Chinese saw real white tea reappear.

White tea is growing in popularity outside of Asia. Until recently white tea was virtually unknown in the United States. But recently the popularity of white tea has increased. Today, many tea drinkers from chefs to medical researchers are praising white tea's delicate flavor and purported health benefits. Market researchers predict consumers will soon discover the tea, turning white tea into a very popular drink.

White tea has an exceptional taste that is smooth and silky with a hint of smokiness that has a remarkable effect on the tea drinker's pallet.

One nice feature of white tea is its compatibility with other flavors and it is easily combined with memorable flavors like melon, licorice and ginger for truly exceptional drinks served hot or iced.

Dental Insurance For Cheaper Then You Think

Most major companies offer dental insurance, but if you're self employed like me or your company does not offer dental insurance you still have many options out there. Many people think dental insurance just cost too much money so they never even take a look at it. I was one of those people. It wasn't till 7 years later after one of my teeth started to hurt that I actually looked at individual dental coverage. I was shocked to learn I could get a half way descent plan for under a hundred dollars a year. The better plans were still under two hundred dollars a year. Dental insurance for individuals is available from many different sources, and those looking for insurance should carefully consider all of the programs available.

Dental insurance for people can and will vary in cost. There are many variables such as age, were you live, how many people you insure. Most dental insurance plans will cover a wide range of dentists but if you already belong to a dentist make sure your plan has them listed as a provider unless you do not mind switching dentists. The people who are open to a new dentist will have more options when seeking dental insurance for individuals. Keep in mind that even though a plan may not have your dentist listed you should still look at it, sometimes the saving may be worth switching.

Different Rates and Benefits for Different Plans

Dental plans can vary a lot when it comes to benefits. You may find that insurance provider A has a max pay out of one thousand dollars a year, were as dental insurance provider B pays out up to three thousand. This might just be a big deal to you if you have extensive dental work that needs to be done. The dental plan will out line how much can be paid out along with a long list explaining how there program works. It is important to read it all. Pay extra attention to the small print. A smart consumer will compare and write down the major differences between the plans so they can get the best deal possible.

Different dental plans will cover different procedures at a different rate. This can make a huge difference to your bottom line. For instance if you still have your wisdom teeth in and they are starting to bother you, you need to take that into consideration. The cost can easily go for $400 hundred a tooth to get out. If you already know you have cavities and will most likely need fillings see how much each provider will pay for that specific item. When my 4 year old went to the dentist for the first time he had 6 cavities and need 6 fillings. We brush and floss his teeth every day and rarely give him candy but cavities are a part of life. Some plans for individuals will pay some or all of the costs for dentures. The expenses for orthodontics and dentures can be high. If you need dentures be sure to find out if the plan covers it. Most plans cover the basic services that are necessary to good dental health. These services include cleanings, fillings and extractions that are necessary. Such luxury items like teeth whitening are not covered in most plans because this is considered a cosmetic feature and not needed to keep your teeth healthy.

The best way to find a good deal is just to open up that phone book and call around. You can also do a search online for "your city dental insurance". This will pull up a wide range of information. Taking care of your teeth is very important, after all your smile like it or not helps to define us and having a good set of teeth can make a great first impression.

Can Your Overall Health Be Affected by Dental Wellness?

Health and longevity are very popular subjects in these first years of the new millennium. You can't open a paper, magazine or watch television or listen to the radio without hearing or seeing some mention of how to be healthier and how to live a longer life. Beverly Hills Dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, a biological dentist, enlightens his patients on the importance of dental health and its effect on the overall health of the body.

Often considered minor and something that can easily be ignored, dental disease can contribute to more injurious ailments and actually shorten life expectancy. If a patient ignores infection of the mouth such as infected cavities, gum disease, infected root canals, and other unhandled oral disease, the effects can be serious.

"Gum disease alone has been found to have increased the risk of heart attack, increased risk of stroke, raise the severity of diabetes, contribute to respiratory disease, interfere with proper digestion and even contribute to low pre-term birth weights.", Dr. Maddahi explains, "It has also been seen to play a role in osteoporosis, severely stress the immune system and of course, lower resistance to other infections."

Dr. Maddahi's Beverly Hills office uses the newest high-tech tools to work on gums and teeth, making the visits less painful, faster and more precise. They use IntraOral Cameras, to view with clarity each tooth and gum surface in the mouth. A high resolution, state of the art, 40x by 1600x Trinocular Compound Microscope allows the patient, the hygienist, and the doctor to digitally view moving bacteria from the mouth on a computerized video screen. A laser is used for soft tissue surgery, curing, and sterilizing with the benefit of no anesthetic needed or just topical anesthetic to get started.

"There is another cause of ill health that your dentist can alleviate. Silver (mercury) amalgam fillings have been found to often greatly affect the health of patients, especially when the filling leaks into the system." Dr. Maddahi explains, "A wide range of problems have been associated with mercury poisoning such as chronic tiredness, digestive troubles, muscle and joint aches and stiffness and sinus troubles. Due to its poisonous nature, mercury can adversely affect the immune, urinary, cardiac, respiratory and digestive systems."

When someone is affected with ill health, not only a trip to the doctor is necessary, but a trip to the dentist could also help to alleviate the problems. Dr. Thomas McGuire, D.D.S., has been an innovator and leader in preventive dental education for over 30 years. He founded the Dental Wellness Institute in 1997 with the goal of bridging the gap between the dental and medical professions. He stresses, "You will also discover that if dental disease, with its related oral health issues, is not acknowledged as an obstacle to achieving overall health, any efforts to accurately diagnose and treat disease, improve health, and extend life, will be less effective, and will fall short of the desired goals."

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has been specializing in creating beautiful, natural smiles for 20 years and is located in Beverly Hills at 436 N. Roxbury Drive, Suite 202 and can be reached at 310-888-7797.
